The Samsung Galaxy  Z Fold 7 features a larger display on both its internal and external screens. The cover display now measures 6.5 inches and uses a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio. This change allows for easier one-handed use, typing, and browsing while it’s folded. When you unfold it, the main display opens up to a stunning 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen, offering an expansive area perfect for multitasking, enjoying content, and boosting productivity. Both displays have a smooth 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and striking brightness, with the main screen shining at up to 2,600 nits for great visibility, even under direct sunlight. Samsung has also made strides in enhancing the durability of the main display, making it thinner, lighter, and stronger through a restructured design that includes a Titanium plate and a 50% thicker Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG). The cover display benefits from Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2, adding to its toughness. While there’s still a crease present, the improved hinge mechanism is designed to lessen its visibility, particularly in softer lighting.

It comes along with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor. It is a special variant of the Snapdragon 8 series optimized to Samsung devices and is specially engineered to provide improved performance, particularly in AI. Main Camera System:

200MP Wide-Angle Primary Camera: It’s the signature term and massive upgrade, borrowed from Samsung S-series Ultra flagship devices (like the S25 Ultra). It has an f/1.7 aperture, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), and multi-directional PDAF. While capable of capturing very high-res 200MP images, it will instead more often than not utilize pixel-binning to create brighter, more detailed 12MP images, with some room for cropping without too much loss of detail.

12MP Ultra-Wide Angle Camera: The ultra-wide-angle camera offers a 120˚ view with f/2.2 aperture and dual-pixel PDAF and is perfect for landscape, group, and architecture photography.

10MP Telephoto Camera with 3x Optical Zoom: For subjects at a distance, Z Fold 7 has a 10MP telephoto camera with f/2.4 lens and OIS providing real 3x optical zoom. Perfect for portraits or bridging the gap without digital loss.

Selfie Cameras:

10MP Cover Camera: On the outside screen, this 10MP (f/2.2) camera is used to take quick selfies and video calls when in the phone’s folded state.

10MP Inner Camera: The company has now upgraded the previous under-display camera (UDC) on the inner display for the first time with a punch-hole 10MP (f/2.2) front camera. The reason behind doing this is to provide better selfie quality because UDC technology was found to be ineffective when it comes to image quality.

AI-Powered Imaging and Innovations

ProVisual Engine: Samsung’s new ProVisual Engine on Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy greatly enhances image processing. It strives to deliver sharper, brighter, and richer images and videos and enhanced lighting and realism, even at low light levels.

Photo Assist: The AI-based feature allows users to move, delete, or zoom objects in photos, alter angles, and even fill backgrounds without any errors.

Portrait Studio: This mode also offers creative pet photography, allowing for subtle portrait photography.

This chipset offers improved power efficiency, which, along with enhanced thermal management and One UI 8’s smarter background task handling, contributes to better real-world battery performance compared to previous generations. In battery drain tests, the Z Fold 7 has shown a modest improvement, lasting slightly longer than the Z Fold 6 and notably outperforming the Z Fold 5. Samsung states the Z Fold 7 can achieve up to 24 hours of video playback.

It supports 25W wired fast charging, allowing for a charge of approximately 50% in about 30 minutes. Wireless charging is capped at 15W (Fast Wireless Charging 2.0), and it also includes 4.5W reverse wireless charging (Wireless PowerShare) for charging accessories or other devices. While these speeds are perfectly serviceable, they fall behind some competitors in the foldable market that offer significantly faster charging solutions.
